Burnley boss Sean Dyche breaks down Jose Mourinho's 'four moments'

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has hit back at Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho's "four moments" claims after the 2-2 draw at the weekend as the club filmed a 10-minute video interview that was published on YouTube on Monday night and was titled "Dyche brings balance to Stamford Bridge events."
Livid Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had a number of issues in the wake of the game, including suggesting that Ashley Barnes' challenge on Nemanja Matic -- which went unpunished but promoted Matic to shove him and get sent off -- was a "criminal tackle."

JOSE MOURINHO'S FOUR MINUTES

Jose Mourinho was angry over "four moments when you can write the story of the game." Here they are.
Min 30: Branislav Ivanovic is sent flying by a tackle from Ashley Barnes. No booking.
Min 33: Michael Kightly blocks Ivanovic shot in the box with his arm. No penalty.
Min 43: Jason Shackell clashes with Diego Costa in the box. Crowd howl for penalty, not given.
Min 69: Nemanja Matic retaliates to a poor challenge from Barnes. Serbian shoves him to the floor. Red card.
Mourinho also was angry about another Barnes tackle and two penalty claims, and added further opinion when appearing on Sky Sports' Goals on Sundayprogramme.
His club's website also made clear its unhappiness, breaking down the four "crucial moments" that Mourinho spoke of. Below are Chelsea's version of events, compared with those of Dyke.
Minute 30
Chelsea: Branislav Ivanovic is felled by a challenge from Burnley's Ashley Barnes, who escapes punishment.
Dyche: Having seen the evidence and my view at the moment, I think the referee had a similar position to my angle. The player looks like he is going across to make a challenge -- he bundles into the player, it's fair to say, I can't imagine that to be deemed anything more than at most a yellow card. Worst-case scenario in my opinion would be a yellow, almost impossible to be a red.
Minute 33
Chelsea: The Blues are denied a clear penalty as Ivanovic's shot strikes the arm of Michael Kightly inside the penalty area.
Dyche: A lot of these things are shown retrospectively, but what wasn't picked up, it hit him on his thigh first, it cannons up; for the referee to see that would be incredible. When you see it slowed down in HD it clearly cannons on to his thigh and his arm; you would expect that to be given.
Minute 43
Chelsea: A second clear penalty appeal is turned away, this time after Diego Costa was pushed to the ground by Jason Shackell.
Dyche: Personally I think it's one your damned if you do, damned if you don't. He's cutting in, he's a big fella, Jason Shackell gets a mild hand on him -- is that enough to go down? I think that's a close one and a real tough one for referees.
Minute 69
Chelsea: Barnes goes through Nemanja Matic with a potentially leg-breaking tackle, a challenge which ultimately led to Matic's dismissal.
Dyche: I said after the game, my instant impression was a coming together at an unusual angle. The pendulum motion of his leg, he swings through the ball and hits Matic on the shin. I need to make this clear, please look at the reaction from a bunch of expert footballers, the likes of John Terry, a real warrior and top-class professional, [Kurt)]Zouma, big strong boys, [Branislav] Ivanovic, right on top of this moment. Jose Mourinho, a similar view to me, the crowd behind me circa 15,000, no one reacts, excluding Matic, live-time.
Now, my point is, live-time, a referee has a chance at live-speed time and if you look at the footage, the camera pans back to Jose and he's calmly talking to his assistant about what they should do. After the event, with hindsight, slow-mo, camera view, statements like criminal tackle are being used. I find that hard to adjust to when at live-time, 15,000 fans, their expert staff including a high-quality manager, their players ... I played all of my life and when moments like that occur it's very rare there's not a reaction to that moment.
After the event, when you slow-mo, re-angle, it looks an ugly challenge, the ball is still made contact with. I must make it clear, when you see it slow-mo, it doesn't look a pleasant challenge, but at live speed, these are expert people who don't even flinch. A real tough one, I feel it hard to believe, all these people who have come out, especially the manager, using very strong phrases, didn't have any reaction at all at that live moment. I find that hard to accept at that live moment.

Jose Mourinho: Four moments changed the game against Burnley

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho blamed four key moments for his side's failure to beat Burnley.
The Blues had Nemanja Matic sent off as they were held to a late 1-1 draw at home to Burnley.
Referring to notes in his post-match BBC interview, Mourinho said: "There are four moments of the game where you can write the story. Minutes 30, 33, 43 and 69. Don't ask me more questions.
"I can't go through the incidents. I am punished when I refer to them."
The key incidents:

30th minute - Ashley Barnes on Ivanovic

Burnley keeper Tom Heaton launches the ball forward and Barnes appears to catch Branislav Ivanovic with a knee to the back of his legs as the two challenge for a header. The Blues defender reacts furiously to the challenge but the referee does not award a free-kick.

Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer, former England captain

"I think Martin Atkinson's had a terrible game. Ashley Barnes goes up for the header with Ivanovic, he leads with his foot, and he's very fortunate. He kicks out, with studs into the back of Ivanovic's hamstring, and that should be a yellow card."

33rd minute - Handball penalty appeal

Ivanovic is at the centre of the action again. Juan Cuadrado pulls the back back for the Serbia defender and he strikes a first-time shot from the edge of the area which hits the raised arm of Michael Kightly, who is turning his back on the ball. Ivanovic claims handball but referee Martin Atkinson is unmoved.

"This is a blatant handball by Michael Kightly. Martin Atkinson is about 10 yards away and Ivanovic is seven or eight yards away. Kightly turns his back and sticks his arm out. That has to be a penalty. It's not as if he's gone to block it with his arms down. His arm's right out there. It has to be handball."

43rd minute - Costa penalty denied

Burnley defender Jason Shackell is dispossessed by Diego Costa and, in trying to make up for his mistake, the Clarets player appears to push the Chelsea striker. Costa falls to the ground but Atkinson again decides against awarding a spot-kick to the home side. Costa punches the ground in anger.

Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer

"Jason Shackell loses the ball and tries to make up for his error, but he catches Diego Costa and shoves him. He gets his legs caught up with Costa's. You can tell by Costa's reaction, by the way he slams the turf with his fists, what he thinks about it. It should be a penalty."

69th minute - Matic red card

The midfielder is dismissed for a reactive push on Barnes after a late tackle from the Burnley forward. Mourinho said: "What happened to Matic was in minute 69 and minute 69 had a big relationship with minute 30 because normally that player, if I can call him a player, should have been in the shower in minute 31.
"There wouldn't have been a minute 69 if the person in charge had dealt with minute 30 properly."

Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer

"This is an horrific tackle by Ashley Barnes, it really is. It's dangerous, it's naughty, it's a terrible tackle. I understand that reaction from Nemanja Matic. It's not right, but I understand it, because Ashley Barnes could easily have broken his leg there. It's a terrible tackle, and Matic, for that, is going to miss the League Cup final next week. Barnes doesn't even get a yellow card."
Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin was critical of both Matic's reaction and the original challenge from Barnes.
He said: "You cannot react like that - and Chelsea players have done in the past. I think the tackle by Ashley Barnes deserves a substantial ban though. It was a vile challenge on Nemanja Matic.
"Potentially a leg-breaker."

Former England winger Chris Waddle speaking on BBC Radio 5 live:

"It's the worst challenge in football whenever anybody goes over the top. Even Gary Lineker or somebody like that would have reacted because it was a shocking challenge. I'm not saying Ashley Barnes deliberately did it but it was a leg-breaker.
"It's not in the rule book but basically we should analyse Nemanja Matic's response as a quick reaction. He's got to two when counting to 10, and any other player in the world would have done what he did."

Mourinho and 'the campaign'

In January Mourinho was fined £25,000 by the Football Association for comments claiming there is a "campaign" to influence referees' decisions against his Chelsea side.
Costa was then handed a three-game ban for stamping on Liverpool defender Emre Can, with Mourinho again blaming TV pundits for being part of 'a campaign.'
After the draw with Burnley, Mourinho said: "A couple of weeks ago when I was here in the press conference after the Liverpool game in the Capital One Cup, the television subtitles had gone on and on about Diego's 'crimes'.
"Well compare Diego's 'crimes' with what happened against Burnley.
"Have I seen a run of decisions like this? I don't remember. I'm happy that I'm not stupid and I understood everything a couple of months ago. I'm not in the mood to laugh."

The Burnley reaction

Ashley Barnes

Burnley manager Sean Dyche defended his players and refused to be drawn by Mourinho's comments.
"I've only seen it as it happened. It looked like a coming together at an odd angle. Then Matic reacts in the way he did," Dyche said.
"I will look back at it again, but I haven't seen it since. But there's more to talk about than that because it was an excellent performance.
"Barnes was involved in something earlier in what sense? Playing football? A charge in the back? Is there anything else? The grass was too short?
"I have total respect for Jose Mourinho, his players and Chelsea. Fantastic manager, fantastic club."

Chelsea and PSG level after Champions League last-16 first leg

Branislav Ivanovic: Heads Chelsea into the lead
Branislav Ivanovic: Heads Chelsea into the lead
Chelsea will head into the second leg of their Champions League last-16 clash against Paris Saint-Germain with a narrow advantage after drawing 1-1 in the French capital.
Branislav Ivanovic headed Chelsea into the lead after 36 minutes but Edinson Cavani replied for PSG shortly after half time.
The home side looked more likely to grab a winner but Cavani prodded a shot just past the post and Thibaut Courtois saved Zlatan Ibrahimovic's injury-time header.
The two teams will meet again in the second leg at Stamford Bridge on March 11.
Jose Mourinho will be hoping for more from his side in the return leg as they were largely second best in Paris, particularly after the break.
Diego Costa: Came up against David Luiz
Diego Costa was recalled for Chelsea after returning from his three-match suspension while Courtois, Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas also started for the visitors.
The Blues had won just once in six prior attempts on French soil and were beaten 3-1 on their last visit to Paris in the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season.
On that occasion the deadlock was broken inside the opening five minutes, but that never looked likely on Tuesday night.
Neither side showed much attacking desire in the early stages, but it was the hosts who created the first chances in the 10th minute as Blaise Matuidi and Ibrahimovic both had headers palmed away by Courtois.
The Belgian, preferred over Petr Cech, was called into action again after half an hour to keep out a near-post header from Cavani.
Branislav Ivanovic: Three defenders combined to give Chelsea the lead
David Beckham: Was in the crowd at the Parc des Princes
But despite looking more threatening, PSG fell behind after 36 minutes as three defenders combined to give Chelsea the lead.
Gary Cahill showed a neat touch to flick John Terry’s cross on for Ivanovic, who headed into the corner and out of Salvatore Sirigu’s reach.
Chelsea looked comfortable after the goal and at the break it seemed as though they were halfway towards a near-perfect away display.
Edinson Cavani: Scored the equaliser for PSG
However, PSG came out with more attacking intent in the second half and equalised in the 54th minute as Cavani was given too much space in the box to head home Matuidi ‘s left-wing cross.
Buoyed by the goal, the hosts went close to taking the lead shortly afterwards when Ibrahimovic saw a shot saved after slaloming into the box and then Ezequiel Lavezzi’s follow-up was blocked.
Michel Platini and Sir Alex Ferguson were also in the crowd
Chelsea weathered the immediate storm but PSG came again and Cavani almost made it 2-1 when he glided into the box, wrong-footed Nemanja Matic and prodded narrowly wide of the post.
The Uruguayan then missed an acrobatic scissor kick from Javier Pastore’s high cross as the hosts pressed for a winner.
Chelsea offered little themselves at the other end and almost conceded in injury-time as Courtois did well to palm away Ibrahmovic’s downward header.
However, in the end the spoils were shared and the Blues will be favourites to progress to the last eight when the sides meet in London next month.

Atletico Maldrid increases their run against Real maldrid by beating them blue black

Cristiano Ronaldo is convinced Real Madrid will regain the Spanish league title from Atletico Madrid, despite the 4-0 loss at their rivals.
Real suffered their heaviest defeat in more than four years but still lead La Liga ahead of Barcelona and Atletico.
Barca are a point adrift, with Atletico four points back in third.
"In my opinion we are a better team than Atletico and we should be showing that on the pitch. I'm sure, in the end, we'll win La Liga," Ronaldo said.
European champions Real are aiming for their first La Liga in three seasons and took control after a 12-match winning streak in the first half of the season.
But their four-point advantage over Barcelona was reduced at the weekend as Atletico's win, coupled with the Catalan club's 5-2 success at Athletic Bilbao, reignited the title race.
"It was a day to forget but we are still top of the league and we know we'll have to fight right until the end," Portugal captain Ronaldo added.
"We have to put this game behind us as quickly as possible because Real Madrid can't lose 4-0 to any team."
Meanwhile, Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes has defended the player for hosting his 30th birthday party shortly after the loss.
The Ballon d'Or winner was seen enjoying the celebrations in a video leaked to the Spanish media.
"Ronaldo was devastated after the defeat and people spent two hours trying to cheer him up," Mendes told Spanish radio station Cadena Ser.
"The fact is that his birthday party had been organised more than a month ago and he had family coming from abroad.
"He didn't want to cancel out of respect for the people that came. What is inadmissible is that somebody takes advantage of a private affair to release a video."
